Our Curriculum

Our Curriculum

At Whitchurch Primary School, our curriculum is designed to be ambitious, inclusive and inspiring, enabling every pupil to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to achieve their best.

Our curriculum is relevant and meaningful. We build upon what children already know and connect new learning to their lives, experiences and the world around them. We make purposeful use of our local community, its rich heritage and the wider national and global context to broaden children's understanding and help them recognise their place within the world.

We believe that learning should be memorable and exciting. Our curriculum is brought to life through carefully chosen experiences, visits, visitors, events and opportunities for children to explore and interact with their learning. These experiences enrich, rather than replace, high-quality teaching and help children develop curiosity, enthusiasm and a lifelong love of learning.

Our curriculum is carefully sequenced and progressive. Knowledge and skills are deliberately built over time, with each year providing strong foundations for the next. Children are supported to make connections between their learning, revisit important concepts and develop increasingly sophisticated knowledge and understanding.

We have high expectations for every pupil. Our curriculum is designed to be accessible and appropriately challenging for all, including pupils with SEND and those who may experience disadvantage. We recognise that children may need different levels of support to achieve ambitious outcomes, and we are committed to identifying and removing barriers to learning.

Ultimately, our curriculum is about more than academic success. We want children to leave Whitchurch as knowledgeable, confident, curious and compassionate young people, equipped with the foundations they need for the next stage of their education and the courage and determination to embrace the opportunities ahead.

Achieving Our Best Together.

Whitchurch Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
