Religious Education Policy
"Achieving our best together"
RATIONALE
Religious Education helps children to reflect upon their own personal beliefs and values and their understanding of God. It contributes to moral development by helping to increase consideration for other people and concern for fairness and justice in society. It encourages spiritual awareness, social and cultural development.
Religious Education aids the children to distinguish right from wrong and to appreciate their own cultural traditions and the diversity and richness of other cultures.
AIMS
We aim to enable the children to understand the nature of religion in accordance with the
A, M & V agreed syllabus 1999 through the QCA document by considering the following:-
To help children understand the ways in which religious beliefs and practices influence the development of attitudes and actions of people throughout the world.
To develop children’s' understanding of themselves and a sensitivity towards other peoples feelings and experiences.
To explore the nature of Christianity through stories, symbols, buildings, festivals, founders and beliefs.
To begin to gain knowledge and understanding of other beliefs and religions prominent in Britain today.
GUIDELINES
Religious Education will be delivered primarily as a separate subject in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
Each year group will follow the appropriate QCA document and some A, M & V units are included.
There will be a variety of opportunities appropriate to the age of the children for class and group discussion of thoughts and feelings to aid emotional and spiritual development, and to motivate curiosity, question and exercise imagination.
CONCLUSION
We will enable children to develop a moral and spiritual awareness and an insight into various beliefs. It also helps them to understand some o f the social and cultural issues within our society. Many of the topics are also linked to other areas of the curriculum.
