Collective Worship Policy

 "Achieving our best together"

RATIONALE

Community schools must provide daily collective worship for all registered pupils.  Daily collective worship must be wholly or mainly of a broadly Christian character, depending on family background, ages and abilities of the pupils.

AIMS

We aim to address aspects of the children’s spiritual and moral development through reflection and by challenging the children to question the purpose of life, the uniqueness of humanity and the meaning of truth.

GUIDELINES

  •  Assemblies should be broadly Christian in character.

  • There should be opportunities for raising cultural awareness.

  •  It is the responsibility of each class teacher to discuss the aims and purposes of assembly and the expected standards of behaviour.

  •  Assemblies. organisation and themes - to be agreed at the beginning of each year (see attached).

  •  Assemblies to be recorded in the ‘Assembly Book’.

  •  During assemblies there will be opportunities for silent reflection and children may be invited to join in with a prayer.

  •  Visiting speakers will be made aware of the School Guidelines.

  •  Occasional use of a candle to focus on during a ‘stilling’ activity during which the children can reflect upon the world around us.

CONCLUSION

Collective Worship should be a time for participation and reflection.
