Safe Use Of Internet

The safe use of the internet by children and young people is an area of increasing concern for parent and teachers.

The internet is now accessible through and ever increasing number of static and mobile devices and has become a major tool for education, business, entertainment and communication.

There are inherent dangers in internet use and we need to be aware of them and of how to deal with them.

In 2007 the government asked Dr Tanya Byron to review the situation and she produced ‘Safer Children In A Digital World.’

One of the key findings of the Byron Review  was that we must ‘make sure enough is done to teach children, young people, parents and other adults about the risks of going online and what they can do about them.’

In school we address this need in our scheme for ICT through a specific strand ‘Research and Acceptable Use.
