The Zambian musicians were part of the Keynsham Fiwila Youth Exchange Link.  This is a fairly long standing link between the rural parishes of Central Zambia and the diocese of Bath and Wells.  They arrived in the UK on 6th July 2007 and were staying in family homes for three weeks.

Banes paid the travel costs of one of the young people, who were all aged between 16 -25 years old, as part of an agreement that they would take part in sharing some Zambian Music and drumming with five Banes schools.

Fifteen young people from this area visited Fiwila two years ago, and this was the reciprocal visit.  In two years time it is planned that another fifteen will go from the UK to Fiwila.

The young people were all from rural villages, still living without electricity and running water.  They were all thoroughly enjoying their visit – their time at Whitchurch was their penultimate day in this country.

They taught the children four Zambian songs, including a ‘football chant’ type song and two songs about children.  Chola taught everyone one or two rhythms on the school’s new African drums.
