Year 4 Willsbridge Mill Visit

 "Achieving our best together"

On Friday 11th of July year 4 went on a trip to Willsbridge mill.

At 9:15 we got on the coach to go to Willsbridge mill. It took about half an hour to get there. We had to walk along a busy road then down a very steep hill. Then a lady came to meet us. We went inside to put our lunch on the table, the lady was called Ruth. She gave us some clues on a piece of card and we had to find the tree that matched our clue.

At 9:30 we went on a tree hunt, we saw lots of different trees. My clue was I have 5 points and turn red in autumn, it was a Field Maple. We also saw oak, hawthorn, sycamore and lots more. Along the way we saw a hill that had pictures of all the bugs that lived in the meadows. We also saw a bench that told us about what under the hill was used for over the past. We came to the end of the trail at about 10:00 and it started to rain. When we got back we had a little snack and the rain stopped, so we went outside to jump in the puddles. We got really muddy!

At 10:30 we went on a bug hunt, we found lots of different insects. One of the groups found a centipede, 2 snails, a woodlouse and a funny looking bug. One of the snails died. We then went by a pond and looked at some more trees. We played a game where you had a blind fold and our group would take us to a tree and we had to feel it, we then got turned around and had to guess what tree we went to. It was really fun.

At 11:30 we went back to the base to eat our lunch. We sat outside to eat our lunch but then it started to rain so we sat inside. Then the rain stopped but we had finished our lunch so we jumped in the puddles. The drain got blocked so we had to unblock it. Some of us got our boots really muddy!

At 12:15 we played another game called Rotters Restaurant. We all had a plate and on the back was an insect and we were that insect. We had to get the food that the insect ate, I had an earthworm, it ate dead leaves, dead roots and leaf particles. We also had a menu which told us what all the insects ate.

At 12:45 we had a little play in the mud. By then the puddles had dried up but then it started to rain again so we all went back inside. We went on another trail after that and saw patterns on the floor. Ruth showed us all the rubbish that they used to make things with.

We got back to the base at 2:30 so it was nearly time to go. We all said thank you, then we went back to the coach. It then was 2:45 when we got back. We all had a terrific day!
