Year 4 Planting Potatoes

 "Achieving our best together"

As part of our class topic in Term 6 2008, Year 4 got some potato experience!

First we left the potatoes on the windowsill to chit. Then we planted them in plastic bags, which had a lot of soil in it. They needed a few months to grow.

A few months later we harvested our potatoes. We got split into groups because we grew two different types of potatoes and we didn’t want them to get mixed up.

For homework we had to write a recipe that we could make. Miss Williams decided that we should do something like Tallola and make a salad.

The day after we got put into groups, I was with Charley and Macauley. Next we went up to the front of the classroom to get our ingredients, which were on one of the tables.

We then started to chop and peel the vegetables. Hannah, one of the helpers started to cry when she peeled the onions. I tried an onion and it was a bit spicy. We mixed it all up with a wooden spoon. It didn’t look very nice but it was delicious.

It was very fun making the salad but I was a bit nervous when we tasted them because we didn’t know what it would taste like.
